Italian pop opera trio Il Volo visited Prague for the first time and performed their concert set in front of a full O2 arena. The band was accompanied by the Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Prague and the trio regularly communicated with the audience during the concert, both in English and in their native Italian.
They were joined on stage by singer Tereza Mašková, who sang the song Canzone Per Te.
Tereza Mašková has been a big fan of Il Volo since she was a teenager, so for her, the meeting was truly a dream come true: “I’m excited, I’m tender, I’m touched. It was a great experience for me and I really appreciate the fact that I could sing with them. The guys were very nice, considerate and friendly. I hope that maybe we will meet again in the future,” said Tereza immediately after the concert.
The concert also included Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On, Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah and Sinatra’s My Way.
The group came together in 2009 during the participation of all the singers in the television talent contest Ti lascio una canzone on Italian television. It has subsequently seen a meteoric rise on the international scene, where it has become known for its unique style that combines traditional Italian opera with modern pop elements, often referred to as popera. Their repertoire includes classic Italian songs, but also more modern compositions.
Throughout their career, the group has released several successful albums, which have been internationally acclaimed. The last album is dedicated to Ennio Moricone. One of the Italian trio’s greatest successes was winning the prestigious Sanremo Music Festival in 2015 with the song Grande Amore. This triumph opened the door for them to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest of the same year, where they came third.
