“The imprint that relationships often left on me was the trauma of the other person. What he or she had experienced or was experiencing. I often took it upon myself to take on other people’s problems, trying to solve them and thinking I was helping. That’s what the song is about too,” Karin Ann describes.

The song also reveals another theme in relationships, namely how a person can change depending on who they are with, but their true nature is hidden. The lyrics inspire listeners to surround themselves with people who are honest and don’t bring toxicity into relationships.

The video accompanying the song, is the second part of a short film by American filmmaking duo Tusk. The spy romance of the first installment followed a young secretary (Karin Ann) at a Hollywood movie studio who was tasked with finding out the truth about a movie star’s (Ashley Moore) scandalized love affairs with various men. While spying, she discovered that such affairs were a cover for her true sexual identity, highly taboo at the time.

And the open ending is now followed up by the narrative denouement of the favorite star video. Throughout the film, it seems as if the secretary and the actress may have a connection of sorts. However, the story takes the audience into scenes where Karin is seen torn between her love for the actress and her work, which eventually results in a surprising media scandal.

The song about losing a part of yourself when you try to behave as those around you would like is accompanied by a romantic spy video clip set in the 1950s. It was filmed in Prague and, in addition to Karin Ann, the American actors Gus Kenworthy and Ashley Moore appear in the main roles.

“a stranger with my face is about how it is very unhealthy to worship a person as God. You end up speaking his slang and conforming to his behavior at all. It’s not even about ingratiating yourself to him, it’s about trying to be more like him rather than being yourself. In the end, you don’t know who you really are,” describes Karin Ann, who found the combination of lyrics and melody almost religious, so she decided to put this feeling into the music in the chorus.

“a stranger with my face” was written by Karin earlier this year in Los Angeles with Benjamin Lazar Davis, Will Graef and Kailee Morgue. The single is a slight stylistic departure from Karin’s repertoire to a more folk sound. The song was co-produced by American Idol founding judge Randy Jackson.

„Byl v tom jeden kluk,“ popisuje Karin Ann vznik nové skladby you make me miserable. „Celkem se mi líbil, vycházeli jsme spolu skvěle a zdálo se, že je do mě taky opravdu zamilovaný. Po pár měsících jsem zjistila, že měl přítelkyni, tak jsem se rozhodl napsat zábavnou píseň o celé věci. Není v tom hluboké poselství, myslím, že je to situace, se kterou se může ztotožnit mnoho lidí,“ doplňuje zpěvačka.

Pod novinkou je společně s Karin opět podepsaný Yungbludův producent Matt Schwartz. Videoklip ke skladbě tentokrát nestojí na příběhu, ale skvělých momentech z turné s Imagine Dragons, Yungbludem a My Chemical Romance. „Opravdu jsem tentokrát nechtěla vytvářet příběh. Chtěla jsem spíš sesbírat optimistické a zábavné záběry z turné a zákulisí, které by měly stejnou energii jako píseň,“ vysvětluje Karin Ann. „Miluji lidi, kteří mě podporují, a je to také pro ně trochu pocta,“ dodává.

Videoklip vzdává hold estetice klasických videokazet, včetně typického zoomování nebo točení z ruky. „Přiznám se, že miluju klasické vhs-ky a videa z videokamery. Navíc díky tomuto formátu šlo všechno super rychle a byla to opravdu zábava! Měla jsem s sebou i své přátele, takže to byla opravdu dobrá a příjemná zkušenost,“ uzavírá Karin Ann.

Tento měsíc předskočí Karin Ann umělkyni LP v Bratislavě a ve Vídni a pak ji ještě doprovodí na italském turné. Z festivalů ji čeká v létě například slovenský Grape nebo mnichovský Superbloom.
