“The video clip for the song Promises is my most informative video clip so far, which we went to shoot in the beginning of January to the north of Germany and Denmark, to the island of Sylt and Rømø. I’m glad that the director of the clip, Mark Jarkovský, and I made this decision and completed this journey. The atmosphere, which seeped into the clip thanks to the locations, seems unique to me,” said Marcell. Filming took place throughout the journey, when they traveled over 2,000 km in a Volvo electric car, of which Marcell is an ambassador.

At the concert line, which will start on March 22 at the Rock Café in Prague, they will present all their previous hits such as Tvůj svět, Nevim or the current single Sliby, which has been playing on some domestic radio stations since January. The House Calls tour is already on sale at Ticketlive.cz.

The album Calls to Home was released last December and was received with positive criticism not only by the professional public, but also by fans. The album was prepared for two years and was filmed in Prague, Berlin and London. Listeners will find fifteen songs on it, including hits such as Your World, Jablko/Skořice or Nevim in collaboration with Ben Cristovao. Marcello’s name appeared on the shortlist of seven performers for this year’s nominations for the Anděl Awards 2022 in the category Discovery of the Year.

Other guests on Marcello’s new record are, in addition to the already mentioned Cristova, Paulie Garand in “Hledáme doma” and Mirai in the final track “Doctor/Musician”. His band with Matyáš Vorda playing drums and Ondřej Fiedler on electric guitar and bass guitar will also go on the Hovory dům tour with Marcello. Fiedlerski is also the main producer of the record.

In 2021, Marcell toured the Czech Republic as a support band for Chinaski and Mirai, where he was very well received by the fans. In 2022, he continued his successful musical collaborations and performed as support for the band Mirai and singer Ben Cristovao at their concerts in the sold-out O2 arenas in Prague.

“The title Calls Home is related to the fact that I lived between London and Prague for four years. I was in contact with my family, friends and my wife very often by phone. It was a difficult time in terms of relationships and as the record reflects that time, it’s reflected in the lyrics of a lot of the songs,” Marcell revealed.

The release of the new album is accompanied by an original promo. On billboards and posters around Prague, there was a phone number where fans could call for free and listen to samples from the new album. The phone line with the number 800 111 003 is still active. Billboards and posters are accompanied by a photo of the iconic English phone booth, which also appeared in the Apple / Cinnamon music video and is on the album cover. 

The main part of the recording process took place at the legendary Snap Studio in London, where the world famous band The Rolling Stones recorded earlier this year. It’s also interesting to note that the piano grand piano featured on the songs “Promises”, “Looking for Home” and “Shining Place” originally belonged to Elton John.

The musicians who accompany him in concerts at home came to London to record with Marcell. They are Matyáš Vorda on drums and Ondřej Fiedler on electric guitar and bass guitar. The latter is also the main producer of the album and supplies: “I wrote most of the lyrics and music with Marcell, I left a piece of myself in there, but when you’re working with one of your best mates and basically there’s no pressure, it just works itself out.”

The Marcell, fiedlerski, Vorda line-up was joined by musicians David Zbirka and Patrick James Fitzroy during the record’s recording in England in August. They contributed to the album by recording instruments such as guitar, bass and keyboards and helped with the musical arrangements on a number of songs. David and Patrick have also worked as producers on Meky Žbirka’s last album “Posledné věci”.

Other guests on Marcell’s new album, besides the aforementioned Ben Cristovao on the song “Nevim”, are Paulie Garand on “Looking for Home” and Mirai on the closing track “Doctor / Muzikant”.

,,It’s about an authentic recording of my bachelor party. The inspiration for Mirai, who spontaneously created the song at sunrise amidst the vineyards of South Moravia, was my, I admit, still somewhat ongoing dilemma to this day, whether to pursue a career as a doctor or a musician. And so on the recording you can hear Mirai’s singing, but also the voice of Fiedlerski, which you just don’t hear anywhere else, my closest friends, my brothers, and the very distinctive voice of my dad, the vet,” Marcell recalls.

“The song is special in that its base, acoustic guitar and vocals, were recorded together, so to speak, on a “one take”, which is not done so much nowadays. Thanks to this, the song can draw you in with its sincere mood. In the studio, producer fiedlerski and I decided to finish up the additional vocals and add minimalistic arrangements, but it doesn’t build up to a grand finale, which maybe everyone would expect. I believe a lot of people can relate to the lyrics of this song,” says Marcell.

“The filming of the video took place in Hrádek near Nechanice, where Tmavomodrý svět was filmed. We wanted to underline the atmosphere of the song, which I think we managed to do with the director Marek Jarkovský. It also features an English phone booth, which you will hear more about on the new album, but I don’t want to reveal anything yet,” Marcell adds.

Jablko/Skořice is the first single from the debut album that Marcell is currently finishing. “I’m a perfectionist, so I’m trying to tweak things to make sure I’m really happy with them, but we’re finally getting close to the final versions of all the songs on my first record, Hovory Domů, and turning in the album master,” the musician reveals.

Marcell has collaborated on the record with important personalities of the Czech music scene, such as music producer Ondrej Fiedler aka fiedlerski, musician David Zbirka, Ben Cristovao will also appear as a guest on the record and other names should be announced soon. “I’ve been lucky enough to work with people I respect not only professionally, but also personally. It’s been an intense but wonderful two years of working and spending time with friends, and I really love what we’ve been able to create,” said Marcell.

Fans can look forward to “Hovory Domů” on November 18, 2022, when the album will be released not only digitally on all streaming platforms, but also on physical media.
